93rd Academy Awards • 2021 Oscar Nominations
The Academy Award nominees have been announced!
What do you think of this list? Are there any films or performances that you felt were overlooked? Any surprises?
It is interesting that MANK--a film produced and distributed by Netflix--is the most nominated. It really feels indicative of the turning tide when it comes to theatrical distribution and the streaming age.
Netflix came close to a best picture win with ROMA in 2019, then again last year with MARRIAGE STORY. Will the leading streamer pull out the win on April 25th?
There were also other historic nominations including Steven Yeun becoming the first Asian-American best actor nominee and Chloe Zhao and Emerald Fennell making this the first year 2 women have been nominated for best director.
