NaNoWriMo 2017: The Halfway Point
Now that we're just over halfway through the month of November, you should be about halfway through your NaNoWriMo 2017 project. In theory. As of this writing, I'm about 43 pages in.
It has been an admittedly grueling process. A daily 4-page goal seemed humble in the beginning, but the extra pages have quickly piled on. However, I've had some momentum lately and hope to cross the 50% threshold by the end of the weekend.
The toughest part of NaNoWriMo is writing without overthinking. Under normal circumstances, a day or two could be spent just breaking down motives or perfecting specific dialog. With a project like this, you have to train yourself to overlook the weaker parts for the time being. You just have to power through and get that first draft down no matter what.
At first it feels icky, like you're purposefully writing a bad script, but ultimately it becomes liberating. It is a nice self-examination of your own process. It puts a spotlight on your strengths and weaknesses; what you labor too much on and what you don't scrutinize enough.
Below you can check out the first 4 pages of our script "THE LOST WORLD: LIFE FINDS A WAY". As of right now, this is the opening of our story, but all of it is subject to change.
If you've started a NaNoWriMo 2017 project, whether it be a script or an actual novel, we'd love to here about it! How far along are you? What is your story about? Hit us up on Twitter @PFASstories!
